Jet Fuel Jukebox: After Midnight Edition

Are you a fan of music and live in or near Chicago? Then maybe the Pitchfork Music Festival is for you! The Union Park festival has been slowly updating its set-list of acts that are scheduled to perform over the three-day weekend from July 20-22 — and so far so good! Friday features Tame Impala, Syd, and Courtney Barnett among others, so you can definitely catch me there on that day.

In other music news, there hasn’t been many huge releases over the last few weeks, but March looks good going forward. And still, even with a lesser amount of new singles and albums, Jake and I have scrounged together 10 recent tracks that we feel good about. On the playlist this week, you’ll find Superorganism, Twin Shadow, and Soccer Mommy, as well as 17 others.

Also, while you’re here and we’re talking about music, please be sure to watch this outstanding music video that Apple produced with director Spike Jonze, which debuts Anderson Paak’s groovy single, “‘Til It’s Over.”

Jet Fuel Jukebox for 11/21/17

Some of my favorite weeks on the Jet Fuel Jukebox are when there’s crossover between the 10 choices that Jake and I make for the playlist. This week, it’s an album entitled Blue Lips, which is the third full-length release from Swedish pop star, Tove Lo. Each of us has gone ahead and inserted into our halves of the playlist a favorite from the new album, which saw its long-awaited release this past Friday.

Alongside this, I have another major highlight with the Jukebox’s closer this week, “Smoking Section,” from St. Vincent’s latest album release, MASSEDUCTION. This past weekend, I had the immense pleasure of seeing her live performance at the Riverside Theater in Milwaukee. I’ve loved Annie Clark for years, previously claiming that she sits in my current top three artists, and my first time seeing her live did not disappoint. Hell, the show was better than I ever could have imagined. If you get the chance, see St. Vincent live; there’s no way you couldn’t enjoy yourself.

As for the rest of the playlist this week, we have 17 fellow tracks courtesy of artists like Tame Impala, P!nk, Sampha, and Princess Nokia.

Jet Fuel Jukebox for 6/16/16

Jukebox_picYeah, we’re a couple days late, but here’s our new Jukebox for the week!

This past week was significant in the music space for me simply due to Preoccupations (fka Viet Cong) announcing a new album and releasing a new single, “Anxiety.” It’s always exciting when artists you really enjoy announce new music.

So, I have of course added the new single from the post-punk band to the playlist, and it joins a list that includes artists like Macklemore, Lady Gaga, and Tame Impala.

Jet Fuel Jukebox for 12/8/15

Jukebox_picIt’s around the time when everyone is getting really stressed with finals, so why not take a break from all the studying you’re likely doing and listen to some great music?

We’re not really highlighting any artist this week. New album releases have started to die down now as the year slowly comes to a close.

Still, we have 20 songs ripe for your listening pleasure, with the likes of Tame Impala, Lorde, and Twenty One Pilots leading the pack.

Be sure to check back next week, though, as we will have a couple of top ten lists, one highlighting our favorite songs of the year, and another chronicling our favorite albums of the year.
