Hello, readers! Today we have a new editor coming at you! We have Amanda Gieseler, who will hopefully brighten up your gloomy morning. Amanda, or Mandy as she prefers to be called, is an assistant poetry and assistant marketing and development editor for the Jet Fuel Review.

Amanda is a junior here at Lewis studying for a Creative and Professional Writing degree. But she also is studying for a minor in Pre-Med to possibly become a veterinarian. When she isn’t running between Biology and English, she’s relaxing at home playing video games to kill time.  She hopes that, if she doesn’t go to Med School, she can write screenplays or dialogue for video games. Maybe she could even become a character within a game.  But let’s hope her dreams can become reality.

Who are you and what is your role in the Jet Fuel Review?

My name is Mandy Gieseler. I’m the Assistant Poetry Editor, and I help with Marketing and Developing.

What book might we find on your nightstand right now?

One of the books on my nightstand is Delirium by Lauren Oliver.

If you had the chance to co-write with one author, who would you choose? Why?

I would want to co-write with Stephen King to see how he creates his books, and then learn some tricks from him for my own writing.

Describe your perfect reading atmosphere.

Laying in a hammock, with a light breeze in the sunset, light music playing in the background (hopefully country or pop, maybe rock), while having a Mountain Dew (Voltage or Baja Blast) and mac ‘n’ cheese.

What might your personal library look like?

My library and I have a problem of space. I have over 500 books in my bedroom, all of different genres, and I refuse to get rid of any. This allows me the ability to make forts in my room out of books and yet still read them.

If you could “re-make” a poorly written movie that was based on a book, what movie would it be?

Percy Jackson & the Olympians by Rick Riordan

What piece of literature can you reread over and over again?

I could read Shakespeare over and over and over again.

Give us a quote from your favorite (or any) book/movie.

“I love you. Remember. They cannot take it.” — Lauren Oliver, Delirium

If you were invited to have coffee with any fictional character, who would you most like to meet? Why?

I would love to have coffee with Juliette from the Shatter Me trilogy. I want to know how she continues her fight no matter the troubles that she confronts through her journey.

Share your top five favorite pieces of writing (anything included, be it movies, books, etc.).

  1. Delirium by Lauren Oliver
  2. Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi
  3. The Duff
  4. My Immortal (fanfiction)
  5. Marvel’s Agents of Shield

Join us next week for the next editor!
