Last week I talked a bit about books that are well-suited to be read in the fall. This week I turn, instead, to books that are being newly released in the fall. As the seasons change, the big book blogs like to put out lists of the most anticipated releases in the coming months. This year is no different and The Atlantic has posted a list of 22 Notable New Releases for this fall. There are some pretty exciting books on this list, so I thought that I would talk about the ones that I find interesting and you could comment with your thoughts, as well!
Jumping right in, there is a collection of stories and essays entitled Sister Mother Husband Dog etc., by Delia Ephron — sister to the late, great Nora Ephron — which is due out on September 17. Being a fan of Nora Ephron, I’d be interested to see what her sister has written about her and about life in general. If there are some blog readers are around my age, then they will remember the days of “getting slimed” on Nickelodeon. Well, on this list is a book called Slimed!: An Oral History of Nickelodeon’s Golden Age, by Mathew Klickstein. This book is due to be released on September 24 covers some of the heavy hitters on the network like Ren and Stimpy and Clarissa Explains it All. Talk about a walk down memory lane!
Another book on this list that I’m really excited for is Humans of New York, by Brandon Stanton (October 15). HONY — as it is affectionately known in the online world — has been a hit blog for a while now and I love what’s posted there. Basically, the blog consists of pictures of New Yorkers with a caption, observation, or a few lines of dialogue accompanying the photo. They’re always interesting, insightful, and eye-opening tidbits so a whole book of these posts would be amazing.
Are there any books on this list that have you got you ready to dash off to your local bookstore or library? What are some books being released this fall that have not been included on this list? Share in the comments!
